Watershed Management
Our mission is to preserve the Lake Sunapee Watershed. Learn about what a watershed is here.
Watershed Management Plan
The purpose of the current Lake Sunapee Watershed Management Plan is to maintain the high quality waters of the lakes, ponds and streams in the watershed. The goal of the plan is to reduce the amount of phosphorus loading by 100 kg/year, a 7.5% decrease over a ten-year period between 2020 and 2030. Nutrient pollution primarily from excess phosphorus, leads to algal and cyanobacteria blooms. To view a summary, learn about progress or to see the complete plan click on the button below.
As part of the current plan, surveys were conducted to identify areas where erosion and sedimentation are occurring. Click the button below to see projects that have been implemented to address erosion and other stormwater issues.
