Please join LSPA via Zoom to learn more about winter loons. The Common Loon is a migratory species that breeds on inland freshwater lakes in Northern North America and winters (generally) on the ocean. In this presentation, Caroline Hughes, Biologist and Outreach Coordinator for the Loon Preservation Committee, will discuss the loon's autumn migration to their wintering grounds, the factors that may contribute to some loons remaining on lakes too long and becoming iced-in, the history of loon ice rescues in New Hampshire, and the lessons that the Loon Preservation Committee has learned over the past decade of loon ice rescues.
